How to Read the Tashkent Metro Map: Network and Lines

Tashkent opened its Metro on November 6, 1977, the first metro in Central Asia. The opening stage had nine stations; today the network mixes underground lines with elevated and surface sections.

According to Toshkent metropoliteni’s network update of November 2025, the system has four passenger lines and 50 stations. The same operator update gives a route length of 71 km, in line with the Ministry of Transport’s earlier figure of 70.8 km for the first half of 2024.

Uzbekistan’s 2025 budget execution report counts 202.9 million passengers and excludes people who only crossed a station as a pedestrian passageway. Toshkent metropoliteni put the same year at more than 287 million, but counted differently, so the two numbers are not interchangeable.

Alongside the underground stations, the surface Halqa Line, also called the Circle Line, covers 14 stations between Texnopark and Qipchoq in the operator’s July 2025 update. That figure describes the corridor itself; whether Turon is stopping again in August 2026 is not confirmed.

Uzbek government texts in English use Chilanzar, Uzbekistan, Yunusabad and Circular Line, while Toshkent metropoliteni uses Chilonzor, O’zbekiston, Yunusobod and Halqa.

  • Chilonzor Line: operational passenger line.
  • O’zbekiston Line: operational passenger line.
  • Yunusobod Line: operational passenger line.
  • Halqa Line: surface corridor between Texnopark and Qipchoq.

Tashkent Metro has four operating lines. The proposed extensions remain planned or under evaluation.

Tashkent Metro Information for Tourists

Fares are low and many stations double as showcases of architecture and art, which makes the Metro an easy sightseeing tool as well as transport. The Tourism Committee counted 3.2 million international and 4.1 million domestic visitors in Tashkent in the first half of 2026.

Uzbekistan’s state tourism portal notes that police are stationed at Metro entrances and exits, though that alone is no guarantee of safety. Officers may lawfully ask to inspect your luggage, and refusing can mean you are not let through.

Step-free access varies across Tashkent Metro stations. Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport reported in June 2026 that 69 lifting or ramp devices at 23 underground stations had been recorded, of which only 38 were operating or in technical trials. Ask station staff for help and check your specific station before you set out.

Tashkent International Airport has no operating direct Metro connection as of August 4, 2026, so the final leg is by road.

Uzbekistan Airports directs arriving passengers to the unified taxi dispatch desk in the arrivals hall. Authorized taxis use the pickup area directly outside arrivals, while Yandex Go displays the fare and estimated journey time before booking.

A direct official taxi is the simplest option with large luggage because it avoids transfers between the terminal and your address.

City bus 12 has served International Airport 2 since March 5, 2025, according to the official bus operator, and is an option to consider if you would rather not take a taxi.

Which Tashkent Metro Stations Serve the Main Sights?

Mustaqillik maydoni serves Independence Square, while Kosmonavtlar is a visitor attraction in its own right.

If you stop at one station purely for its own sake, make it Kosmonavtlar. Whether it is the most beautiful is a matter of taste, but the operator’s own description of space-themed portraits, star forms and blue-toned lighting makes it the easy pick.

Tashkent Metro: Tickets and Prices

You pay a flat fare per entry, with no zones and no distance pricing. Since January 1, 2025 an electronic ride costs 1,700 UZS (≈ $0.14), while a one-time QR ticket costs 3,000 UZS (≈ $0.25).

There is no dedicated tourist or group ticket. What you can buy instead are the general ATTO passes for one, five or seven days, valid on buses and the Metro alike. USD figures use the Central Bank of Uzbekistan rate of 11,847.16 UZS per USD, dated August 21, 2026.

ATTO’s discounted transfer fares apply to physical and virtual ATTO cards within a 60-minute window. A second Metro entry in the same chain is not discounted, so the saving really shows only when you combine a Metro leg with a bus leg.

Paying by card is now the norm: ATTO reported in an April 2026 payment update that more than 60 percent of over 740,000 average daily Metro payments were made with a bank card.

Physical ATTO cards are sold at Metro ticket offices and UzPost branches, and you can top them up in the same places. The official app also supports top-ups and can display an electronic one-time QR ticket charged to your transport card.

At the gate, hold your ATTO card against the validator until it confirms the payment in green. A one-time QR ticket has to be scanned at the station named on it, within 30 minutes of purchase.

Supported national and international contactless bank cards can be tapped without entering a PIN. One card covers up to five payments within 30 minutes at the same validator, with payments two to five confirmed on the device. Not every foreign card or mobile wallet is guaranteed to work.

Tashkent Metro Timetable and Service Hours

Since May 1, 2026, Chilonzor, O’zbekiston and Yunusobod have run daily from 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM. The surface Halqa Line closes earlier and runs daily from 5:00 AM to 11:00 PM, according to the operator’s current service windows.

Toshkent metropoliteni’s last full frequency update, dated November 12, 2025, put morning peak intervals between 7:30 AM and 9:00 AM at 1.5 minutes on Chilonzor, 3 minutes on O’zbekiston, 4 minutes on Yunusobod and 9 minutes on the Halqa Line.

There is no regular through-the-night service: the Metro closes overnight, and holidays or major events can shift the timetable. The operator has not published a full 2026 set of off-peak, late-evening or terminal-by-terminal departure times, so none are listed here.

Further Information about the Tashkent Metro

In 2026, the government assigned a two-stage study and evaluation documents for a planned Tashkent Metro route from Mingo’rik via Southern Railway Station to Chilonzor Clothing Market. The TTZ or TTP extension, the New Tashkent line and the Mingo’rik route remain planned or under evaluation, not confirmed as construction projects.

Tashkent’s stations are attractions in their own right. Uzbek government and operator descriptions list marble, granite, columns, reliefs, ganch plasterwork and staged lighting, while Kosmonavtlar carries a space theme of its own.

Fun Fact: Photography was off limits in the Tashkent Metro until the passenger rules changed on May 31, 2018, and the 2023 rules still allow amateur photos and video. The popular story that the ban existed because the stations doubled as military bunkers has never been confirmed in public records.
