Naples Metro: Key Facts at a Glance

• The Naples Metro operated by ANM consists of Line 1 and Line 6; Trenitalia Line 2, EAV regional trains and the four funiculars are separate services.

The Naples Metro map places urban and regional rail services in one view. The distinction between ANM, Trenitalia and EAV is therefore essential before counting lines or planning a transfer.

The Metropolitana di Napoli is operated by Azienda Napoletana Mobilità (ANM). For practical trip planning, the ANM-operated Naples Metro has two lines: Line 1 (Linea 1) and Line 6 (Linea 6).

ANM’s current Line 1 service page lists 20 stations between Piscinola/Scampia and Centro Direzionale. ANM’s technical history of Line 1 dates the first section to 1993, followed in 1995 by the extension from Piscinola to Colli Aminei.

ANM’s 2025 mobility charter records 37,645,610 journeys on Line 1 in 2024. The 18.8 km figure in ANM’s 2025 mobility charter describes Line 1’s 2024 configuration, which had 19 stations and terminated at Garibaldi; it does not represent the current 20-station route to Centro Direzionale.

Line 6, known locally as Linea 6, runs from Mostra to Municipio. The same mobility charter records eight stations across 5.5 km, but its short daily operating window makes it less flexible than Line 1 for sightseeing.

Naples Metro Lines at a Glance

• Yellow Line 1: Piscinola/Scampia to Centro Direzionale, 20 stations.

For most first-time visitors, Line 1 provides the most useful city-center stops. Toledo, Museo, Duomo, Dante and Università serve distinct visitor areas, while Garibaldi is the key transfer point for the main railway station and EAV services.

Use the Naples metro map before starting a regional trip. Pompeii is not a direct Metro destination: change at the Napoli Centrale and Piazza Garibaldi hub to an EAV Vesuvian Line train for Pompei Scavi Villa dei Misteri.

Naples uses both operator-specific and integrated fares. The current ANM fare table lists a EUR 1.50 (≈ USD 1.73) ANM Metro ticket for Line 1 or Line 6, while the EUR 1.80 (≈ USD 2.08) Urbano Napoli ticket is valid for 90 minutes and allows a transfer between urban operators.

Fares are current as of August 12, 2026. Approximate USD values in the ticket table use the European Central Bank reference rate of EUR 1 = USD 1.1540 from August 11, 2026.

The official Urbano Napoli fare rules limit this ticket to trips that start and end inside the municipality. Journeys beyond Naples use TIC Campania zones, so Pompeii is NA3 and Sorrento is NA5 rather than an extension of the urban Metro fare.

Tap&Go is active on ANM Line 1 and Line 6 and on EAV’s Napoli to Sorrento route. For rail travel, use the same card or device to tap in and tap out; a missing tap-out can trigger the maximum fare.

Paper and magnetic tickets must be validated when the journey begins and retained for inspection. If a validator is broken, write the date and time on the ticket. Digital ANM tickets must be activated before use and then display a dynamic QR code.

The first trains leave Centro Direzionale at 6:15 a.m. and Piscinola at 6:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, the last departures are 11:00 p.m. from Centro Direzionale and 10:30 p.m. from Piscinola.

On Friday and Saturday, Line 1 continues later. The last published departures are 1:32 a.m. from Centro Direzionale and 1:20 a.m. from Piscinola. Trains run every 10 minutes until 8:00 p.m. and every 14 minutes afterward.

Line 6 operates a much shorter schedule. Service from Mostra runs from 7:30 a.m. to 2:44 p.m.; service from Municipio runs from 7:36 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. The published frequency is every 14 minutes.

Neither ANM Metro line runs all night. ANM lists N1, N3, N5, N6 and N7 as active urban night routes. N1 links Brin with Garibaldi, Bovio, Municipio, Chiaia and Tecchio at selected overnight times.

Schedules can change during engineering work, service disruptions or strikes. Use the Line 1 departure page, the Line 6 departure page and Italy’s strike calendar before travel.

Does the Naples Metro Go to the Airport?

No. Capodichino station was not operating on August 12, 2026, and Line 1 terminated at Centro Direzionale. The official integrated map marks the airport extension as under construction.

Alibus remains the direct ANM connection between the airport, Garibaldi/Centrale and the port. It runs daily from the airport between 5:30 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. the following day, with a published maximum gap of 15 minutes.

The Alibus fare is EUR 5.00, approximately USD 5.77. ANM gives a journey time of about 15 minutes to Centrale and 35 minutes to Porto.

Toward the city, Alibus serves Airport, Garibaldi/Centrale, Porta di Massa and Beverello. For current travel access details, consult the airport’s ground transport information.

The airport extension remains a construction project rather than a passenger service. The municipal transport program targets a 2027 launch for a shuttle between Tribunale and Capodichino, while an earlier city publication specified June 2027. Neither date is a guaranteed opening.

There is no reliable opening date for the full Line 1 ring. For 2027, the same municipal program lists further work and the definition of the operating model, so the airport shuttle target should not be confused with completion of the entire ring.

The municipal Line 6 planning document includes a proposed station at Campegna and extensions toward Nisida, Bagnoli and Posillipo. These are plans rather than operating sections, and procurement or construction depends on secured funding. The earlier 2027 to 2030 construction timetable is no longer reliable.

Fun Fact: ANM’s Duomo station record documents the discovery of parts of the temple of the Isolympic Games, which Augustus established in AD 2, as well as Greek competition inscriptions naming winners in athletic and artistic events.
