Vancouver Metro Map: Key Facts at a Glance

• The network is easy to grasp: three fully automated lines (Expo Line, Millennium Line and Canada Line) serve 54 unique operating stations.
• Since 1 July 2026 an adult single costs between CAD 2.85 (approximately USD 2.03) for one zone with Compass Stored Value and CAD 6.70 (approximately USD 4.78) for three zones with a Compass Ticket or contactless payment.
• From the airport you stay on one train: the Canada Line runs from YVR-Airport Station to downtown in approximately 25 minutes, and trips leaving the airport area normally add CAD 6.50 (approximately USD 4.64).
• You rarely need a timetable during the day: trains are scheduled every 2 minutes on the busiest shared Expo corridor, thinning out to every 15 minutes late at night on each Canada Line branch.
• If you land late, the last Canada Line train leaves YVR at 12:54 a.m.; after that the N10 NightBus keeps the airport connected.

SkyTrain is one of the world’s oldest and longest fully automated rapid transit systems. It opened in December 1985, with revenue service beginning in January 1986.

The operating network has 54 unique stations: 24 on the Expo Line, 17 on the Millennium Line and 17 on the Canada Line, with shared station complexes counted once.

SkyTrain recorded 146.8 million boardings in 2025. The total combines 104.196 million Expo and Millennium boardings with 42.594 million Canada Line boardings. It counts boardings, not unique passengers or complete journeys.

TransLink plans, finances and manages regional transportation. The British Columbia Rapid Transit Company operates Expo and Millennium and manages the agreement under which InTransitBC operates Canada Line through July 2040.

Expo, Millennium and Canada Lines at a Glance

• Expo Line, blue: Waterfront to King George, with services from Waterfront toward Braid or Production Way-University. The branches divide at Columbia, where riders can transfer between them.
• Millennium Line, yellow: VCC-Clark to Lafarge Lake-Douglas. The route shares three interchange stations with Expo Line services.
• Canada Line, teal: Waterfront to YVR-Airport or Richmond-Brighouse. Airport and Richmond trains use separate branches after Bridgeport.

How to Read the SkyTrain Map

The Vancouver metro map uses line colours, station names and branch termini to show the direction of travel. Use it in four steps:

1. Choose Expo Line, Millennium Line or Canada Line for your destination.
2. Read the train destination before boarding because Expo and Canada services branch.
3. Use the named interchange station when changing between SkyTrain lines.
4. Treat SeaBus and West Coast Express as separate regional connections, not as additional SkyTrain lines.

Use the Vancouver SkyTrain map to identify the branch, then check the destination display before boarding southbound at Bridgeport because one branch serves YVR and the other continues to Richmond-Brighouse.

SkyTrain gives visitors a direct rail link between downtown, YVR, Richmond, Surrey, Burnaby and Coquitlam. The name Metro Vancouver can also describe the wider region, while this guide and the Vancouver metro map focus on the three operating SkyTrain lines.

Use the SkyTrain map with the line name and station when planning. Downtown Canada Line trains serve Yaletown-Roundhouse, Vancouver City Centre and Waterfront. Expo and Millennium extend the network into other municipalities.

Accessibility at YVR includes elevators between Canada Line access and the arrivals and departures levels. The airport station sits between the International and Domestic terminals and serves both terminal areas.

YVR Airport to Downtown on the Canada Line

Canada Line trains run directly from YVR-Airport Station to Waterfront and other downtown stops. The typical trip to downtown takes approximately 25 minutes.

YVR-Airport Station is between the International and Domestic terminals. From Domestic Arrivals on Level 2, go to Level 3, continue toward the Link Building and follow the posted signs. The airport’s public transport directions cover both terminal approaches.

The schedule effective 8 June 2026 lists the first train from YVR at 5:09 a.m. and the last at 12:54 a.m.

Each airport branch train runs every 10 minutes early in the morning, every 6 minutes at peak times, every 8 minutes around midday, every 12 minutes in the evening and every 15 minutes late at night.

YVR is in Zone 2 and downtown is in Zone 1. On weekdays for trips starting at or before 6:30 p.m., an adult trip costs two zones plus the YVR AddFare.

The adult YVR-to-downtown total is CAD 11.60 (approximately USD 8.28) with a Compass Ticket or contactless payment, or CAD 10.70 (approximately USD 7.64) with Compass Stored Value.

For trips starting after 6:30 p.m., on weekends and on British Columbia statutory holidays, the base fare drops to one zone.

The adult YVR-to-downtown total becomes CAD 10.00 (approximately USD 7.14) with a ticket or contactless payment, or CAD 9.35 (approximately USD 6.67) with Stored Value.

The CAD 6.50 YVR AddFare (approximately USD 4.64) applies when travelling from YVR-Airport, Sea Island Centre or Templeton toward Bridgeport and beyond. It does not apply toward YVR, to Monthly Pass holders or to journeys entirely among the three Sea Island stations.

SkyTrain uses three fare zones on weekdays for trips that start by 6:30 p.m. Trips beginning after 6:30 p.m., plus all weekend and provincial statutory-holiday trips, use a one-zone base fare across the system.

Compass Tickets and contactless payments use the adult cash fare. A Compass Card with Stored Value provides the lower adult fare. DayPasses cover all zones until 4:00 a.m. the next day on the eligible network, excluding West Coast Express.

Fares are effective 1 July 2026; the CAD 6.50 YVR AddFare follows the current airport surcharge rules. Approximate USD prices use the Bank of Canada daily average for 17 July 2026 (USD 1 = CAD 1.4014), converted by division and rounded to the nearest cent.

Compass Cards are sold through official channels including vending machines, authorized retailers and Waterfront customer service. A new card has a refundable CAD 6.00 deposit (approximately USD 4.28), and vending machines require a minimum CAD 5.00 load (approximately USD 3.57).

Use the same card or device to tap in and out. Each rider needs a separate card or device. A single fare permits transfers for 90 minutes.

Online Compass payments accept only cards issued by Canadian financial institutions. International visitors can instead use a vending machine, buy a Compass Ticket or tap an accepted Interac, Amex, Mastercard or Visa card or major mobile wallet at the adult fare.

Service hours vary by line, direction and day. The schedule effective 8 June 2026 lists the endpoint times below. Timetable times are estimates, so use the official trip planner before a time-sensitive journey.

• Expo Line: Service from Waterfront to King George begins at 5:29 a.m. on weekdays, 6:47 a.m. on Saturdays and 7:48 a.m. on Sundays and holidays. The last listed trains are 1:16 a.m., 1:16 a.m. and 12:16 a.m. respectively. Service ranges from 2 to 12 minutes, with 2 to 3 minutes on the shared Waterfront-to-Columbia section at peak times.
• Millennium Line: Service from VCC-Clark to Lafarge Lake-Douglas begins at 5:30 a.m. on weekdays, 6:29 a.m. on Saturdays and 7:30 a.m. on Sundays and holidays. The last trains are 1:22 a.m., 1:22 a.m. and 12:22 a.m. Service runs every 3 to 4 minutes at peaks, every 6 minutes midday, every 6 to 8 minutes in the evening and every 8 to 10 minutes late at night.
• Canada Line from YVR: The first train leaves at 5:09 a.m. and the last at 12:54 a.m. on all days in the schedule effective 8 June 2026. Branch trains run every 6 minutes at peak times and every 15 minutes late at night.

NightBus runs seven nights a week, generally every 20 to 30 minutes. Routes N9, N10 and N19 serve Coquitlam, Richmond/YVR and Surrey respectively.

SkyTrain closing times depend on the line, direction and day. Check the trip planner, especially for late airport journeys.

Two projects will expand the system, but neither is part of the operating 2026 SkyTrain network.

The Broadway Subway is a 5.7 km Millennium Line extension from VCC-Clark to Arbutus Street. It adds six underground stations, including an underground connection with Canada Line at Broadway-City Hall, and is scheduled to open in fall 2027.

Dynamic train testing began in May 2026, first under manual control and later automatically. Construction and station fit-out continued in July. The planned ride from VCC-Clark to Arbutus is approximately 11 minutes.

Surrey Langley SkyTrain is a 16 km, mainly elevated Expo Line extension from King George to 203 Street in Langley City. Eight stations are under construction, and the anticipated opening is late 2029.

By May 2026, all eight future stations were under construction, more than 30 percent of the guideway was installed and track work had begun.
