network.<\/li>\n<li>A contactless STIB journey costs <strong>\u20ac2.40 (\u2248 $2.77)<\/strong>, and daily contactless charges are capped at \u20ac8.50 (\u2248 $9.80).<\/li>\n<li>Most STIB services operate from about <strong>5:00 AM to midnight<\/strong>, but the first and last Metro times vary by line, direction and the day of the week.<\/li>\n<li>Summer weekday Metro service generally runs every <strong>7 to 8 minutes<\/strong>, dropping to about every 10 minutes late in the evening and every 15 minutes early on weekends.<\/li>\n<li>Brussels Airport has no Metro station. Direct trains reach the central stations in about <strong>11 to 23 minutes<\/strong>, while Airport Line 12 reaches the European Quarter in <strong>about 30 minutes<\/strong>. STIB-MIVB, the Brussels public transport operator, operates today&#8217;s four-line network, whose Metro axis measures <strong>39.8 km<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The opening network formed an 11 km Y with 16 inaugurated stations. The operator&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stib-mivb.be\/files\/live\/sites\/STIBMIVB\/files\/Corporate\/Rapport%20annuel\/Rapport%20annuel%202025\/STIB_statistic_report_en-compressed.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">annual operating statistics<\/a> report <strong>69 Metro and Premetro stations combined<\/strong>. The figure includes underground Premetro tram stops, so it is not a Metro-only station count.<\/p>\n<p>Lines <strong>1 and 5<\/strong> share the central section from Beekkant to Merode. This distinction matters because an underground platform can look like a subway station even though the vehicle remains a tram.<\/p>\n<p>Trams <strong>4 and 10<\/strong> use the central North to Midi Premetro corridor. Bourse\/Beurs is a Premetro stop served by those trams, not a genuine Metro station. Metro lines cover major interchanges and outlying attractions, while Premetro trams, surface trams, buses, SNCB\/NMBS trains and short walks often provide the more direct central connection.<\/p>\n<p>For Grand-Place, take <strong>Lines 1 or 5 to Gare Centrale<\/strong> and continue on foot. Bourse\/Beurs may look Metro-like underground, but it is a Premetro stop for trams 4 and 10.
